Yossi Daboosh was first inspired by his surroundings in the ancient city of Ashkelon, Israel, where he grew up. It was here that he dreamed of becoming an artist.
Daboosh’s early paintings celebrated the beauty of the people around him. Influenced by the masters, Rembrandt and Velasquez, Daboosh portraits employed vivid use of light. During his first trip to Europe in 1971, Daboosh became entranced by the work of the sculptors Bernini and Michelangelo. He then began to experiment with stone and clay as a way to capture the world as he saw it.
Always looking to expand his perspective, the artist moved to the United States where he began formal artistic training. Daboosh became a teacher of jewelry making and created an original line of modern handmade pieces. Rounding out his abilities, Daboosh studied Culinary Arts at The New School of Social Research in New York City.
Daboosh’s art of today reflects the vast experiences of his past and the encounters of his present. He works in oil, watercolors, stone, and clay. Rich colors and dramatic light and shadows used by the artist elevate and explore common objects. Yossi Daboosh continues to fulfill the artist dream of his youth in his studios in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He shares his life and his art with his wife, Patti, their three successful children, and their precious Puddin’.
